« A love story in hell », an exclusive animated testimony

From Friday 13 January on InfoMigrants and France 24 and Saturday 14 January at 9 pm * on France 24

Format: 25mn

Story based on testimonies received by InfoMigrants

Report by: Adel Gastel

Muhamad, a 25-year-old Somali migrant, had run away from the fear in his country to reach Europe. He arrived in Libya in 2017 and was abducted by smugglers. He tells his story to InfoMigrants journalists : his path to exile, his ordeal, his love and escape.

Tortured, insulted and harassed for several months, Muhamad meets the woman of his life, Amina, in an underground prison. This living hellhole without daylight did not stop them from weaving their love story and fighting for survival. After months of suffering, torture, separation and the kidnapping of Amina by smugglers, the young couple finally succeeded in escaping and are now in Europe.

This animated documentary is produced by InfoMigrants and France 24's journalist Adel Gastel, also looks at the situation of thousands of migrants who are still being illegally detained in Libya, in inhuman conditions that are regularly denounced by the UN and human rights NGOs.

« A love story in hell », a special Reporters Plus will be aired on Saturday 14 January from 9 pm* on France 24’s English, followed by a debate with guests. This documentary can also be found in French, Arabic and Spanish.
