'Greenland, breaking the silence' The scandal of Denmark's forced contraception campaign

Greenland, 1960s. Thousands of young Inuit girls, some barely teenagers, are sent to hospital. Without explanation or consent, Danish doctors fitted them with IUDs, a painful procedure that left lifelong scars. In total, more than 4,500 Greenland women were victims of this massive forced contraception campaign, orchestrated by the Danish authorities.

In this investigation, Franco-Danish journalist Sarah Andersen sheds light on this policy of forced birth control, commissioned at the highest level of Denmark's government, that has left a deep trauma in Greenland. Between Nuuk and Copenhagen, she gathered moving testimonies from women who have long been silenced, and looked into the colonial legacy still present today.

Torn between memory, aspirations to independence, and new geopolitical tensions, Greenland is confronted with a crucial question: is it possible to repair history?
