InfoMigrants: Now available in Bengali

InfoMigrants, the news and information site for migrants developed by France Médias Monde (France 24, Radio France Internationale, Monte Carlo Doualiya), Deutsche Welle and the ANSA, has launched a new website and Facebook page in Bengali. InfoMigrants is now available in six languages: Arabic, Bengali, Dari, English, French and Pashto.

Strenghtened by its success in five languages and to target a wider audience, InfoMigrants, launched in 2017 by France Médias Monde, Deutsche Welle and the ANSA, is extending its offer by adding Bengali to its portfolio.

The number of refugees from Bangladesh in Europe has increased over the past few years, notably because of the unpredictable situation in Libya and the terrible work conditions in the Arab states of the Persian Gulf, where they would historically go to work in the oil and construction sectors.
As it is now the second largest migrant community to risk its life to reach European shores, InfoMigrants in Bengali aims to provide verified, reliable, objective and balanced news to migrants from Bangladesh. It offers personal stories, as well as explainer pieces about asylum and migration to Europe. The content follows the editorial line of InfoMigrants' other five language offers but provides a specific focus on Bangladeshi migrants and migration from Bangladesh. With articles, videos and much more, this offer contributes to counter misinformation shared by human traffickers and smugglers, who seek to mislead and manipulate migrants. It targets people at every stage of migration, whether they are yet to begin their journey, are on their way or have recently arrived in Europe.

Several topics covered by InfoMigrants have been praised over the past few years, notably “Raped, Beaten, Confined in Libya: A Teen Migrant’s Journey to Hell”, watched by more than 15 million Internet users or the podcast series “Voix d’exiles” (in French) in which five young migrants tell their stories about why they decided to leave their countries and the truth about their lives in Europe.

In 2020, InfoMigrants aggregated 71.2 million visits across its website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages, its Viber and Telegram accounts and its YouTube channel, which proves its importance for vulnerable population, especially in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

About InfoMigrants:

InfoMigrants is a news and information site for migrants to counter misinformation at every point of their journey: in their country of origin, along the route, or in the places where they hope to start a new life. Today’s migrants are connected with the world and keep up with friends, family and news across multiple countries thanks to their smartphones. To reach this connected population, InfoMigrants is available via multiple platforms, principally mobile phone and social media. Available in French, Arabic, English, Dari, Pashto and Bengali, it supplies migrants with reliable, verified, objective and balanced news and information. InfoMigrants is a collaboration led by three major European media sources: France Médias Monde (France 24, Radio France Internationale, Monte Carlo Doualiya), the German public broadcaster Deutsche Welle, and the Italian press agency ANSA. InfoMigrants is co-financed by the European Union.
