Reporters : “Iceland: A gender equality paradise?”

Saturday 7 January at 9:10 pm*

As the first country to elect a woman as a head of state, Iceland stands out as a beacon for gender equality. The longest-running European democracy in which women gained the vote in 1915.

Whether it’s the feminist strike that brought the country to a standstill in 1975, or the many trailblazing laws regarding equal pay and parental leave, Iceland has become a model of modern society A country in which rights nevertheless tend to be hardly acquired. Melina Huet explores this island state one question: does this country deserve its status as a paradise for gender equality?

“Iceland: A gender equality paradise?”, a Reporters broadcast on France 24’s four channels (in French, English, Arabic and Spanish), and available on france24.com
