Reporters Plus: "On the line: America's deportees" on Saturday January 15 at 9:10 pm*

In Tijuana, thousands of Mexicans are deported every year from the USA. For decades, some of them have lived, worked, paid taxes and started a family on the other side of the border. Mothers and fathers living in the USA end up finding themselves separated from their children.

This border town has become an airlock between two worlds where the broken lives of migrants end up. South of the wall, paths of reconstruction are winding and the spiral of exclusion is ruthless for those deported from America.

Richard, Rocio and Sergio are amongst those who were deported after a ruling which verdict is without appeal. They now live in Tijuana, behind the wall. In order to survive, many deportees, who speak English fluently, have to work low-paying jobs for American companies that outsource their call centers in Mexico.

“On the line” tells the intimate story of a geopolitical reality. It was multi-awarded: with the 2021 Albert Londres Prize for best journalists in the audio-visual format and the 2021 FIGRA Grand Prix.
